Welcome to Prenton Methodist Church Playgroup |
|
Prenton Methodist Church Playgroup has been registered since 1993, and through the hard work and dedication of the staff, continues to enjoy an excellent reputation.
The Playgroup offers very high levels of care for the children. We have a well qualified, mature staff, who encourage the children both socially and in their education. We run a successful key person system so each child has an adult who knows them well and sets up a close relationship with them. |

It is most important to remember that play is an essential part of a child’s development. We believe that children learn how to socialise and find out most about themselves, others and the world through play. We follow the guidelines set out in the Early Years Foundation Stages which gives information on the curriculum designed for young children; this includes:
1. Personal, Social and Emotional development We aim to develop good personal skills, positive attitudes, independence and social skills. We emphasise good manners, sharing and turn taking. In this way we help the children to develop confidence and self-esteem.
2. Communication, language and literacy Great emphasis is placed on speaking and listening to each other and to the Staff. We offer a range of activities to develop a wide vocabulary. Books are available to take home each day as well as to use in the sessions. Writing skills are encouraged using a range of media.
3. Problem solving, numeracy and reasoning There are many opportunities to explore numbers, count, solve problems, develop mathematical language and learn shapes.
4. Knowledge and understanding of the World We encourage children’s natural inquisitiveness to explore the natural world and their environment. Opportunities to build and construct are available. We explore our own culture and beliefs and those of others.
5. Physical development We offer opportunities to develop large and small motor skills. There is a large, secure garden for the children to play in and grow produce. We emphasise the importance of keeping healthy and the things that contribute to this.
6. Creative development A wide range of craft, music, dance and role play are on offer.
We know a child who is playing is a happy child.
Parents We like to work closely with our parents by holding parents meetings, the “About Me” booklet is kept up to date with the child’s progress and photos and we are always available to hear about any concerns or information. All information is kept in confidence.
We have a skilful, well-informed special needs co-ordinator who will try to help with any concerns you may have and we can set up meetings with outside agencies such as Speech Therapists if necessary. |
